Chapter 8: Competition Policy
European Union competition policy aims at establishing an internal market where economic operators compete on a level playing field. The competition acquis covers both anti-trust (rules applicable to undertakings) and state aid control policies (rules applicable to Member States). It includes rules and procedures to state aid fight anti-competitive behaviour by companies (restrictive agreements between undertakings and abuse of dominant position) to scrutinise mergers between undertakings, and to prevent governments from granting state aid which distorts competition in the internal market.
