Secretariat for European Integration

The Secretariat of European Integration (the Secretariat) is composed of diplomatic and civil servants of the ministry responsible for European integration and foreign affairs. The Secretariat is responsible for coordinating national policies with those of the European Union.


The Secretariat of European Integration, in addition to the functional duties in the ministry responsible for foreign affairs, exercises the following functions:

co-ordinates and supports the work of the Inter-Institutional Working Groups both within the framework of the Stabilisation and Association Process obligations and within the negotiation process for each chapter of the European Union acquis;

co-ordinates and supports the drafting of the final analytical report on the harmonisation of national legislation with the EU acquis (“screening”) by each Inter-Institutional Working Group;
 

prepares draft proposals for negotiating positions for each chapter of the European Union acquis, based on draft proposals for negotiating positions drafted by each Inter-Institutional Working Group;

 

coordinates the interaction and exchange of documentation between the State Delegation, the Negotiating Group and the Chief Negotiator with the Inter-Institutional Working Groups;

 
manages the electronic database for monitoring the negotiation process and the obligations arising therefrom, etc.

The Secretariat of European Integration carries out its functions under the direction of the Chief Negotiator.
