Chapter 10: Information Society and Media

The objective of the acquis concerning information society and media is to ensure liberalisation of electronic communications services and networks , to eliminate barriers for the effective functioning of the single market, to to promote competition, safeguard consumer interests in this sector and to create modern services available universally. The acquis also aims at ensuring free movement of audio-visual media services within the EU, thereby establishing a transparent, predictable and effective regulatory framework for public and private broadcasting in line with European standards. The acquis also requires the capacity to participate in the Union programmes Media Plus and Media Training .
